Aprilia have reportedly reached out to Enea Bastianini as a backup plan, in case their star rider Jorge Martin leaves the team for the 2026 MotoGP season.

Despite currently having Martin under contract through 2026, tension has escalated over a disputed clause that may allow him to leave earlier. Aprilia remain keen to keep him, but according to Sky Italia, they’re not taking any chances and have already made initial contact with Bastianini.

Plan B in Motion?

Sky Italia reports that while no concrete deal has been struck, Bastianini is on the radar should Martin exit. Pramac Yamaha are also said to be keeping a close eye on the Italian rider’s situation.

Martin’s manager recently claimed his rider is available for transfer in 2026, citing a contractual clause. But this statement was swiftly denied by Aprilia. CEO Massimo Rivola has even suggested that legal action may be taken if the dispute escalates.

Bastianini Struggling to Shine at KTM

Enea Bastianini lost his factory Ducati seat to Marc Marquez and joined the Tech3 KTM team this season. However, the switch hasn’t paid off as expected. His best finish so far was P7 at the Circuit of the Americas, and he currently trails behind his teammate Maverick Vinales as well as KTM factory riders Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder.

Despite the underwhelming results, an opportunity to return to a leading Italian team like Aprilia might just reignite Bastianini’s career.

Will Martin Stay or Go?

With Jorge Martin currently sidelined due to injury, Aprilia tasted victory at the British Grand Prix through Marco Bezzecchi. Martin is set to miss the next round at Sachsenring, but Aprilia hope to see him return at Brno, right before the summer break.

The big question remains: will Aprilia be able to keep Martin, or will they turn to Bastianini to lead their factory team in 2026?
