WhatsApp to Launch Reply Threads in Group Chats for Smoother Conversations. |
Looks like WhatsApp is finally stepping up its group chat game. After showing up in the Android beta version last year, the much-needed reply thread feature is now popping up in the iOS beta too. That’s a pretty strong sign that this feature is getting ready to roll out for everyone real soon.
So what’s this all about? Basically, WhatsApp is working on a feature that lets you reply to a specific message in a group chat and keep the whole conversation neatly organized in a thread. Imagine replying to someone’s comment and having all related messages grouped together in one place. No more guessing who’s replying to what.
According to WABetaInfo, in the current version being tested, the original message shows a small counter that tells you how many replies it has. When you tap it, a separate window opens where you can view all the replies and even drop your own message. Your reply will automatically be added to the same thread.
This update is super helpful for big group chats that move fast. You know how it goes. You check your phone after a few hours and there are hundreds of new messages. Conversations overlap, people are replying to five things at once, and it turns into a hot mess. With threads, everything stays on-topic and easier to follow.
And by the way, this is just one of several cool things WhatsApp is working on to make group chats more manageable. Not long ago, they also started testing AI-generated message summaries that help you catch up on unread messages. That feature is only available in the US for now, but fingers crossed it rolls out globally soon.
As for when you’ll be able to use reply threads on your device, there’s no official launch date yet. But since it's already in both Android and iOS beta versions, you can bet it’s coming in an upcoming update. Just make sure you keep your app updated so you don’t miss out.
So yeah, this might be a small change on the surface, but it’s gonna make a big difference in how we handle chaotic group chats. If you’re someone who gets overwhelmed by a flood of replies or hates losing track of conversations, this is gonna be a total game-changer.
