| Jakarta Street Fight Stopped at Dawn, 6 Young Men Busted with Sharp Weapons. |
Jakarta was supposed to be quiet before sunrise. Instead, things almost turned violent.
South Jakarta police stepped in just in time to stop a street fight involving a group of young men in Kalibata, Pancoran, early Sunday morning around 4:00 AM local time. What could’ve ended in serious injuries—or worse—was shut down before it even started.
According to police, six young men were arrested after officers found them allegedly preparing for a gang clash while carrying dangerous weapons.
Police Say the Fight Was Already Planned
Acting Head of Criminal Investigation Unit at South Jakarta Metro Police, Iptu Satrio, said the suspects were not just hanging out.
“They were suspected of acting together and assisting each other in carrying sharp weapons for an attempted group attack,” he explained.
The suspects were identified as DNP (21), MR (20), MRA (17), GPG (18), DW (20), and MD (20). All are male, and one of them is still underage.
Weapons Seized Raise Serious Concerns
Police seized a disturbing amount of evidence from the group, including:
Six sickle-type blades
One samurai sword
One golf club
Three motorcycles
Four mobile phones
Cash totaling Rp869,000
Authorities believe the weapons were meant to be used in a violent street confrontation, not just for intimidation.
Alcohol, Midnight Meetups, and a Call to Fight
Investigators revealed that the group had been gathering since Saturday night around midnight near the Cikini Educational Complex. Some of them were reportedly drinking alcohol before the situation escalated.
At some point, one member allegedly encouraged the others to look for rivals and move toward a location where street fights usually happen.
Ironically, police say the two sides involved were connected to the same circles, linked to GMC Pancoran and Fatahillah High School, both based in South Jakarta.
Facing Heavy Criminal Charges
All six suspects are now being held at South Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters and are facing multiple charges under Indonesia’s new Criminal Code (KUHP) and Emergency Law on sharp weapons possession.
If convicted, they could face serious prison time, especially due to the involvement of sharp weapons and group violence.
A Wake-Up Call for Jakarta’s Youth
This case highlights a growing concern over street violence among youth in Jakarta. Police are urging parents, schools, and communities to step up supervision before late-night hangouts turn into life-changing mistakes.
One thing is clear: this time, police arrived early—and it may have saved lives.
