Samarinda, East Kalimantan – The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) East Kalimantan Regional Office granted special Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri remission to 618 inmates at Class II A Samarinda Prison.

The Head of Kaltim Ditjenpas, Endang Lintang Hardiman, said, “This remission is a form of state appreciation, and the process is increasingly transparent, although we on the ground continue to face challenges in integrating prison data digitally.”

He added that efforts to accelerate digitalization through the Inmate Assessment System are ongoing to ensure each inmate’s behavioral progress is recorded accurately and systematically.

The transition from manual systems to an integrated digital database still faces infrastructure limitations in certain operational areas. Nevertheless, inmates’ rights are fully maintained. Out of the total, 615 received Special Remission I, while three inmates qualified for Special Remission II, including two who were released immediately and one who must serve a subsidiary sentence.

Endang hopes that this reduction in sentence will motivate inmates to continue contributing positively to their families after their time in prison. “The optimization of technology-based services in the future is expected to fully eliminate conventional bureaucracy, making the fulfillment of inmate rights more efficient and targeted,” he said.

The Head of Class II A Samarinda Prison, Yohanis Varianto, reminded inmates to use the independent rehabilitation programs as valuable preparation for returning to society. “All remission recipients have been electronically verified and meet the mandate of Law No. 22 of 2022 on Corrections with a record of good conduct,” he emphasized.

The reading of the Ministerial Decree on Immigration and Corrections took place solemnly on the Samarinda Prison volleyball court immediately after Eid al-Fitr congregational prayers. The event ran smoothly and concluded with heartfelt moments as officers and inmates shook hands and celebrated the holiday together.
