Tangerang, Banten - The trend of cases of atypical progressive acute kidney injury in children in Indonesia has shown a significant decline, according to the Health Ministry.

"In recent weeks, almost none of the cases have been found. I check every morning at the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital or Persahabatan Hospital. There may be one or two cases, but they are undergoing therapy," Director General of Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices at the Health Ministry Lucia Rizka Andalusia said in Tangerang, Banten Province, on Thursday.

At present, the number of cases of acute kidney injury has decreased considerably, with almost no new cases detected, she informed. In fact, Jakarta's Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital currently only has patients who are undergoing therapy or are recovering.

Further, Fomepizole is still being given to pediatric patients with acute kidney injury in Indonesia, she informed.

"Fomepizole is still being administered to children who are being treated. To administer it again, we'll see what the needs are," she said.

So far, the availability of pharmaceutical drugs for the treatment of children with kidney failure is still sufficient, with the stock pegged at 246.

“Now, we have 246 (doses), some were donated and some we bought (ourselves). It's still enough, but later we will stop for emergencies," Andalusia said.

Based on data, the number of acute kidney injury cases in Indonesia has reached 325 with the addition of 21 cases. Meanwhile, the number of deaths has touched 178.

In terms of age, 169 patients are one to five years old, 75 are less than a year old, 39 are 11 to 18 years old, and 42 are 6 to 10 years old.
