Aceh, Indonesia — A major drug smuggling operation has been thwarted by Indonesia’s National Police. The Narcotics Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri) successfully seized 98 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and arrested three suspects during a raid at the Fish Auction Site (TPI) in Gampong Sungai Raya, Aceh, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

The operation was carried out based on intelligence reports indicating that a shipment of illegal drugs would be arriving by sea from abroad. According to Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of the Narcotics Crime Division at Bareskrim Polri, the meth was being smuggled into Aceh via a small boat.

Smuggling Attempt Uncovered at Local Fishing Port

During the investigation, officers spotted a small red boat docking at the TPI Gampong. The boat, which carried two unidentified individuals, raised suspicions. As officers approached, both men jumped into the river and managed to escape, leaving the boat behind.

Inside the vessel, police discovered four large blue plastic bags filled with methamphetamine, totaling 98 kilograms. The sheer amount suggests it was meant for distribution not only within Aceh but possibly to other regions as well.

Three Suspects Arrested, Investigation Ongoing

Following the seizure, police arrested three suspects believed to be involved in the operation:

  • Saiful Ishak (40 years old)

  • Rifki Wahyudi (24 years old)

  • Riski Fajri (26 years old)

Authorities believe these individuals played different roles in the network—ranging from couriers to middlemen and local coordinators. The investigation is still underway to uncover the full extent of the operation and identify key figures behind the smuggling attempt.

“We’re working hard to trace the origins of the drugs and expose the entire distribution network,” Brig. Gen. Eko stated.

Based on the quantity and method of smuggling, police strongly suspect the operation is connected to an international drug trafficking syndicate. Aceh’s coastline is often targeted by drug smugglers due to its strategic location and limited maritime surveillance.

Boats like the one used in this case are commonly used by smugglers because they can navigate remote coastal areas without drawing attention.

The success of this bust is also thanks to the support of local communities who provided valuable tips. Police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

“We can’t fight this battle alone. We need the community to be our eyes and ears on the ground,” Brig. Gen. Eko emphasized.

The three suspects are now facing serious charges under Indonesia’s Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment or even the death penalty, especially for cases involving large quantities of drugs.

Authorities hope that strict law enforcement will deter others from getting involved in drug trafficking.

This case serves as a strong reminder that drug threats are real and can affect any part of the country. It highlights the importance of public awareness and community involvement in preventing illegal drug activities.

If you see or hear something suspicious, don’t hesitate to report it to the nearest police station or the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). Your report could help save lives and protect your community from the dangers of drugs.

The successful interception of 98 kilograms of meth in Aceh is a major win in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Indonesia. It shows how serious and organized these criminal networks can be—but it also proves that with strong collaboration between law enforcement and the public, we can disrupt their operations.
