Busted! Inter-Provincial Drug Network Raided by Police, 15 Kg of Marijuana Seized. |
The Indonesian police continue to show their strong commitment to fighting drug trafficking. Recently, two young men believed to be part of a large-scale inter-provincial drug network were arrested in North Sumatra. During the operation, officers seized a large amount of dry marijuana ready for distribution. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the spread of illegal drugs in the country.
How It All Happened: Arrest on a Key Transportation Route
The arrest took place on Sunday, April 14, 2025, along the Padang Sidempuan-Panyabungan highway in Huraba I Village, Siabu District, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra. The suspects, identified by their initials AH (33) and NM (19), were caught red-handed during the operation.
According to Narcotics Unit Chief, AKP Era Maifo, the operation was a follow-up from a previous arrest involving a suspect identified as IS (33), who was apprehended in Tapung Hulu. During questioning, IS confessed that the marijuana he had came from AH in North Sumatra.
“Once we got that lead, our ops team moved quickly to the location named by IS. After some surveillance, we managed to arrest AH along with another young man, NM,” said AKP Era Maifo in a statement to the media on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
Massive Evidence: Over 15 Kilograms of Marijuana Found

During the arrest, officers conducted a thorough search of the area and discovered a shocking amount of illegal drugs. Police found 15 large packages of dry marijuana leaves, neatly packed in sacks and covered with black plastic bags to avoid suspicion.
“In total, we seized 15.57 kilograms of marijuana. That’s a huge amount and could have caused serious harm if distributed to the public,” explained AKP Era.
He also mentioned that this case strongly indicates that AH and NM are part of a larger, organized drug syndicate operating across multiple provinces. The scale and packaging method suggest a professional setup aimed at mass distribution.
Serious Charges and Legal Consequences Await
Both suspects are now in police custody and are undergoing further investigation at the Mandailing Natal Police Station. They will be charged under Indonesia’s Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, which carries severe penalties, including life imprisonment or even the death penalty, depending on their level of involvement.
Police are also continuing to trace the wider network. It’s possible that more suspects could be arrested in the near future as the investigation unfolds.
Drug Abuse: A Real Threat to Our Youth
Cases like this are a wake-up call for everyone. Drug distribution, especially marijuana, is still a major threat across various regions in Indonesia. While some people consider marijuana a “light” drug, it’s still illegal in Indonesia and carries serious health and legal risks.
Law enforcement is urging the public to stay alert and report any suspicious drug-related activities in their communities. The fight against drugs is not just the job of the police—it’s a shared responsibility.
Family and Community Support is Crucial
Besides law enforcement efforts, family and community play a huge role in preventing drug abuse. Open communication, proper education, and paying attention to behavioral changes in teenagers are key ways to keep them from falling into drug use.
Encouraging youth to stay active in positive activities, such as sports, arts, and education, can help build their confidence and keep them away from dangerous influences.
With this recent arrest, the police have once again shown that they won’t tolerate drug trafficking. But the war against drugs requires a collective effort. Families, schools, local leaders, and the government must work hand-in-hand to create a drug-free environment.
Never underestimate the damage drugs can do. Let’s support our law enforcement officers by being alert and speaking up when something doesn’t feel right. Say no to drugs—for a healthier, safer future for the next generation!
