Jakarta – Indonesian police have finally revealed the motive behind a disturbing voyeurism case involving a 36-year-old doctor enrolled in the Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDS) at the University of Indonesia (UI). The suspect, identified as MAES, secretly recorded a female intern identified as SSS (22) through the bathroom ventilation of their boarding house.

According to Central Jakarta Police, both the suspect and the victim were staying in neighboring rooms at a boarding house located on Percetakan Negara VI, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta. The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at around 6:12 PM.

“The victim became suspicious and realized she was being recorded while taking a shower. She immediately reported it to her friends. They managed to catch the suspect and handed him over to the police along with the evidence,” explained Police Criminal Investigation Head AKBP Muhammad Firdaus on Monday (April 21, 2025).

The investigation revealed that MAES climbed onto the ceiling and used the air ventilation gap above the bathroom to secretly record the victim. The 8-second video was recorded using the suspect’s personal mobile phone.

“The suspect said he did it just for fun. He admitted that this was his first time and claimed the video was for personal use only, with no intention of distributing it,” Firdaus added.

For his actions, MAES has been charged under Article 4 Jo. Article 29 and Article 9 Jo. Article 35 of Indonesian Law No. 44 of 2008 on Pornography. If found guilty, he faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of privacy and vigilance, even in places we consider safe. Police urge the public to report any suspicious behavior immediately.
