Vision Pro Takes a Backseat: Apple Now Focuses on Lightweight AR Glasses That Look Like Regular Eyewear. |
Looks like Apple is switching gears! After making waves with the launch of its high-end Vision Pro headset, the tech giant is now shifting focus to a much lighter and more practical device: augmented reality (AR) glasses that look just like regular glasses.
This news comes from trusted tech insider Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. According to his report, Apple is now putting more energy into developing a simpler, more affordable wearable device—marking a major change in their long-term product strategy. Apparently, this new AR glasses project is now a top priority for CEO Tim Cook.
“Tim isn’t focused on anything else right now. This is the one product that’s getting most of his attention,” said a source close to the matter.
A Different Approach from Vision Pro
The Vision Pro, which launched earlier this year, costs a hefty $3,499 and is aimed at a niche market—mostly tech enthusiasts and professionals. It’s also pretty bulky, making it less ideal for everyday use. That’s why Apple is now looking into something lighter, simpler, and more appealing to the average user.
These new AR glasses are still in the early stages of development, but the goal is clear: Apple wants to make a device that’s more practical, more comfortable, and way more affordable than the Vision Pro. But don’t expect to see them in stores anytime soon—experts say the launch could still be years away.
Big Challenges Ahead
Of course, building smart glasses isn’t as easy as it sounds. Apple is currently working through some major challenges, including how to shrink the components, improve battery life, and keep the price reasonable for everyday consumers.
And time is ticking. Apple reportedly wants to release its glasses before Meta (Facebook’s parent company) drops its own AR device, the Orion Glasses, which have a prototype price of around $10,000. Meta plans to release them before 2030.
Possible Integration with Other Apple Devices?
There’s also talk that Apple might integrate AI-powered features into future versions of products we already know—like the Apple Watch or AirPods. That means we could see smart glasses from Apple that work a lot like the Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses, but with tighter integration into the Apple ecosystem.
Even though there’s no official release date yet, one thing’s clear: Apple is dead serious about creating the future of everyday wearable tech. So if you’ve been dreaming of lightweight, smart AR glasses that don’t cost a fortune, your wish might be coming true in a few years.
