If you’re a fan of movies that mix action, fantasy, and sci-fi, here’s some exciting news! David Sandberg, the Swedish director famous for the viral short film Kung Fury, is working on a brand-new full-length movie called Dragonlord. This film is described as a wild blend inspired by Star Wars, Mad Max, Lord of The Rings, He-Man, and even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The story follows Dragonlord, a treasure hunter played by Sandberg himself, whose best friend is Blaze Falcon — a T-Rex who’d rather play video games than hunt for artifacts. Everything changes when Blaze is kidnapped by the villain Dreadmanser. To save his friend, Dragonlord assembles a crazy team including a tech expert, a former servant of the villain who’s fallen in love with a unicorn, and a bird-man who spits acid.

Sandberg calls Dragonlord a “crazy mix of everything,” but promises the film will have its own unique vibe. While it shares some spirit with Kung Fury, this new movie will offer fans a completely fresh experience.

Right now, the script is being polished, casting will start soon, and filming is planned for spring 2026. Unlike Kung Fury, which mostly used green screens, Dragonlord will be made using cutting-edge virtual production technology. This means a rich, immersive world can be created without blowing up the budget like a big Hollywood film.

Dragonlord is fully funded by Mikko Kodisoja, a Finnish entrepreneur and co-founder of the popular game company Supercell (the creators of Clash of Clans). Mikko and Sandberg plan to develop new original franchises together, with Dragonlord as their first exciting project. The film is being made at Mikko’s virtual studio in Finland.

The news about Dragonlord comes as Kung Fury celebrates its 10th anniversary since premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015. Although a full-length sequel starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Fassbender never happened due to legal issues with a Chinese investor, Sandberg has taken that experience as a lesson and is now ready to bring a new, action-packed story with Dragonlord.
