The Directorate of Narcotics Crime at the Indonesian National Police has once again made a major breakthrough in its war on drugs. On Monday, May 12, 2025, around 12:30 PM Central Indonesia Time, two men identified as Sudirman and Rizal Sunandar were arrested by the North Kalimantan Narcotics Unit for alleged involvement in trafficking methamphetamine.

The arrest came after officers from Sub-Directorate 2 received a tip from the local port authorities regarding two suspicious individuals from Tarakan. The narcotics team immediately began surveillance and tracking.

“We received intel that indicated an ongoing drug operation. After investigating, we discovered that the two suspects had been moving between several hotels before finally locating them at Hotel Platinum,” explained Brigadier General Eko Hadi, Director of Narcotics Crime, on Wednesday (May 14, 2025).

According to the report, one of the suspects retrieved a red Honda PCX motorbike from the hotel. Officers followed them until they reached a traffic light intersection in Durian Rambutan.

At that location, the team conducted a body and vehicle search. Inside the seat compartment of the motorbike, they found 12 packages of methamphetamine wrapped in packaging labeled “GUANYINWANG” – a common tactic used to disguise illicit drugs.

“We confirmed the substance is methamphetamine. Both suspects and all evidence have been taken into custody for further investigation,” said Brig. Gen. Eko.

This arrest highlights the Indonesian Police’s unwavering commitment to eliminating drug networks. Authorities are also calling on the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities.
