Good news for all you John Wick fans out there! Chad Stahelski, the director behind the entire franchise, just dropped some juicy details about John Wick 5 in an interview with Empire. And get this — the next movie is taking a whole new direction that no one saw coming!
Why the twist? Well, as you probably remember, John Wick died at the end of Chapter 4. So, obviously, fans have been wondering: how in the world are they going to make a fifth movie?
A New Story, Not a Direct Sequel
Chad made it clear — John Wick 5 won’t be a continuation of the story we saw before. That means no more focus on "The High Table," the secret council that runs the criminal underworld in the John Wick universe.
For context, The High Table is made up of 12 powerful figures who control everything from behind the scenes. They enforce strict rules that every assassin must follow, and breaking them can mean exile... or death. John Wick, of course, spent most of the previous films fighting to survive after going against them.
A More Peaceful John?
Interestingly, Chad hinted that we’ll see a different side of John Wick this time — someone who has finally made peace with his grief. That opens the door to a fresh emotional storyline, without losing the high-octane action fans love.
Even better? Chad teased that the first trailer for John Wick 5 is coming soon. In his words: “When you see the trailer, you’re gonna be like, ‘Damn, I need to watch this!’” Yep, sounds like it’s going to be epic.
No Release Date Yet, But John Will Be Back on Screen
While John Wick 5 doesn’t have an official release date yet, Keanu Reeves will be back as the beloved hitman in another film first — Ballerina, a spin-off led by Ana de Armas. Keanu will appear in a supporting role, and the movie is set to premiere in Russia on June 5, with global releases expected shortly after.
John Wick 5 is shaping up to be something totally different — and totally awesome. Even though the character was “killed off,” there’s still plenty of story to tell in the Wick universe.
