Truck Drivers Extorted at Gas Station – One Man Caught, Two Others Turn Themselves In. |
Pontianak — A shady incident at a gas station on Jalan Hasanuddin, Pontianak, has cops stepping in. It all went down on Wednesday (May 14, 2025), when a few truck drivers were just trying to fill up on fuel—only to be asked for money.
According to police, a man was going around asking truck drivers for Rp 5,000 (around 30 cents) after they finished refueling. He claimed it was to “help” guide their trucks from the gas station back onto the main road.
“We got a report that someone was extorting truck drivers under the pretense of helping them move their trucks out of the gas station,” said AKP Wagitri, spokesperson for the Pontianak City Police.
The city’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) acted fast. They showed up at the gas station and nabbed the suspect, identified by his initials YF. During questioning, YF admitted to asking truck drivers for money.
But there’s more to the story.
Not long after YF was brought in, two other men, AG and BT, showed up at the police station and turned themselves in. Turns out, they’d done the same thing and had even told YF to take over for them.
“AG and BT came in voluntarily and admitted they’d previously been the ones asking drivers for money. They said they asked YF to take their place,” Wagitri added.
All three are now in police custody as the investigation continues.
