PONTIANAK – To ensure public safety and maintain order, the Garda Khatulistiwa team from the West Kalimantan Police (Polda Kalbar) conducted preventive patrols across several high-risk areas in the region on Sunday (May 11). These efforts aim to deter street crime and acts of thuggery before they happen.

The patrol was led by AKBP Aswandi, S.H., Head of the Gasum Subdivision of the Ditsamapta Unit at Polda Kalbar. He was joined by a group of well-trained officers, fully equipped with standard patrol gear. Before heading out, the team held a detailed briefing to ensure everyone was ready and the patrol plan was clear.

“Our main targets are suspicious individuals or groups, areas prone to criminal activity, places where fights are likely to happen, and public spaces like markets, terminals, and other busy spots,” said Aswandi.

This patrol isn’t just about showing presence—it’s about engaging with the community. Officers used a “dialogue approach,” meaning they spoke directly with residents to gather information and help people feel safe and supported.

Before heading out, the team checked their documents, gear, and mapped out their patrol routes based on updated security data. With a professional yet human-centered approach, the patrols carefully covered known trouble spots on a consistent basis.

This initiative is part of the West Kalimantan Police’s broader mission to create a safe and fear-free environment through proactive and preventive efforts.

Police spokesperson Kombes Pol. Dr. Bayu Suseno, S.H., S.I.K., M.M., M.H., emphasized that these patrols are a reflection of the police force’s dedication to protecting the public from any form of street crime or intimidation.

“We urge the public to stay alert and never hesitate to report anything suspicious or any form of intimidation they might experience. Strong collaboration between the police and the community is key to building a safer and more comfortable environment for everyone,” said Bayu.

With regular patrols and a focus on community connection, the West Kalimantan Police hope to continue minimizing the risk of criminal activity and strengthen public trust.
