Great news for fans of The Witcher universe! Andrzej Sapkowski, the legendary Polish author behind the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, has announced that he is working on new books that will continue the story of the beloved monster hunter.
During a recent appearance at a book festival in Opole, Poland, Sapkowski revealed his plans to return to the Witcher saga. His comments sparked excitement across the fanbase, especially when he directly addressed comparisons to A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin.
“If someone in the audience asks the question, I'll tell you straight: I will write more. And unlike George R.R. Martin — whom I know personally, by the way — when I say I’m going to write something, I actually do it,” said Sapkowski.
He clarified that his statement wasn’t meant as a jab at his American colleague. Rather, he expressed empathy toward Martin’s situation and the pressure created by the Game of Thrones TV series, which famously overtook the books.
“Let’s be honest — I completely understand him. If someone did that to me, making a show based on my work and then getting ahead of the story, I would also hesitate to continue. It’s nice when your stories are adapted, but adapting something that doesn’t even exist yet? That’s just inappropriate.”
Sapkowski’s Latest Novel “Rook’s Crossing” Is Already Out in Poland
Sapkowski has already made good on his promise with the release of Rook’s Crossing, a new Witcher novel that debuted in Poland earlier this year. The book is set for a worldwide release in September 2025, with fans eagerly awaiting English translations.
While plot details remain under wraps, Rook’s Crossing is expected to build upon previous Witcher stories and set the stage for further installments. Readers hope this is the beginning of a new era for Geralt’s literary journey.
