Massive Fake Stamp Syndicate Busted in Jakarta – Over IDR 1.17 Billion in Losses to the State! |
Breaking news from North Jakarta! Police have uncovered a major fake stamp operation that has cost the Indonesian government more than IDR 1.17 billion in tax losses. Yup, you read that right—billion, not million. The case involves counterfeit materai tempel (Indonesian tax stamps) that are usually used for official and legal documents.
Let’s break down what really happened and how big this syndicate was.
How It All Started
The case was first reported under police report number LP/285/V/2025/SPKT/Polres Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok on May 27, 2025. Following the report, a task force led by AKP I Gusti Ngurah Putu Krishna, S.I.K., M.Si., raided the operation on Saturday, May 24 at around noon.
During the raid, four suspects were arrested:
-
AA (35)
-
I (40)
-
ED (31)
-
YA a.k.a. W (54)
Turns out, these guys had been printing and selling fake stamps since 2023!
The Insane Amount of Fake Stamps Seized
What the police found was absolutely mind-blowing:
-
249 sheets or 117,450 pieces of counterfeit Rp10,000 stamps
-
225 sheets ready to be distributed
-
119 printed sheets of fake stamps
-
4 stamp rings containing 2,000 stamps
-
Another 112 pieces of fake stamps
That's thousands of fake tax stamps circulating in the market!
But wait, there’s more. They also had tools to make and package the stamps, including CPUs, packing plastics, stabilizers, rulers, black-tinted glass, and even fancy gift wrap. Like seriously, they turned it into a home industry!
The Modus Operandi
Their trick? Simple but sneaky.
They designed fake stamps that looked almost identical to the real thing and sold them at regular market prices—Rp10,000 each. For many people, these fakes were impossible to detect. Imagine how many important legal documents were affected?
With 117,450 pieces found and each valued at Rp10,000, the estimated state loss is a jaw-dropping Rp1.17 billion+.
Serious Jail Time Awaits
These suspects won’t be walking free anytime soon. They’re facing Article 25 of Law No. 10 of 2020 on Stamp Duty, which carries up to 7 years in prison, plus Article 257 of the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP) for forging and distributing fake stamps.
According to AKBP Dr. Martuasah H. Tobing, S.I.K., M.H., Chief of the Tanjung Priok Police, this was no small-time scam.
“This is an organized crime operation that has been running for almost two years. The financial damage to the country is massive, and we will pursue justice all the way,” he said during the press conference.
Don’t Fall for Fake Stamps
This case should be a wake-up call for everyone. Be careful where you buy your stamps. If it’s not from the post office or official channels, it could be fake—even if it looks perfect.
Using fake tax stamps can ruin the validity of your documents, and worse, it could get you in trouble too. Double-check every time. Better safe than sorry!
