New Trailer for “Weapons” Unveiled: Upcoming Horror Thriller from “Barbarian” Director Stars Josh Brolin Investigating the Mysterious Disappearance of 17 Students.

Warner Bros. has officially released the second trailer for “Weapons,” an upcoming horror film directed by Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind the 2022 cult hit “Barbarian.” The trailer builds a chilling narrative centered on a horrifying event—17 students vanishing from a single classroom without a trace.

In the newly released footage, actor Josh Brolin (Dune, Avengers: Endgame) delivers an intense performance as a concerned father, angrily demanding answers at a school board meeting: “I just want to know what happened in that classroom!”

A Dark Mystery: Why Did These Students Disappear?

Brolin’s character begins to question the silence surrounding the mass disappearance, especially when the school principal—played by Julia Garner (Ozark)—fails to offer a logical explanation. The mystery grows more sinister when a young girl's voice narrates:

“This is a real story that happened in my town. A lot of people died in very strange ways.”

The trailer teases a series of haunting visuals: a blood-covered man running through the streets, dark hallways, and eerie silence. The horror feels psychological and grounded in reality—an unnerving signature style of Cregger.

From the Director of “Barbarian,” with a Bigger Budget and All-Star Cast

Zach Cregger previously shocked audiences with his breakout horror film Barbarian, made on a modest budget of approximately $4 million and grossing over $45 million worldwide. With Weapons, he’s returning with higher stakes, a larger scope, and a more prominent cast.

The ensemble also includes:

  • Alden Ehrenreich (Oppenheimer)

  • Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange)

  • Toby Huss (Little Boy)

  • June Diane Raphael (Zodiac)

Release Date Moved Up Due to Strong Test Screenings

Originally scheduled for January 2026, Warner Bros. has now moved up the release date of Weapons to August 8, 2025 following overwhelmingly positive feedback from test audiences. This early release is a clear sign the studio expects big things from the film—possibly even cult-classic status.

“Weapons” Could Be 2025’s Must-See Horror Film

If you’re a fan of smart, atmospheric horror with a deeper mystery and emotionally charged performances, Weapons should be high on your watchlist. With a gripping story, star-studded cast, and chilling direction, this could easily become one of the most talked-about horror releases of 2025.
