Pontianak Shaken by Child Abuse Scandal: Civil Servant Arrested for Sexual Assault at State-Run Social Welfare Institution.

Pontianak, June 30, 2025 – A disturbing child sexual abuse case has emerged from a government-run social welfare facility in Pontianak, West Kalimantan. A male civil servant (PNS), who was working at the institution, has been arrested by the Pontianak Police Department for allegedly committing lewd acts against underage children under his care.

Civil Servant Accused of Sexual Abuse Against Underage Victims at Social Institution

The incident unfolded on the evening of Sunday, June 29, 2025, when officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit (Jatanras) of the Pontianak Police conducted an operation to apprehend the suspect. The man, a public servant affiliated with a government agency in Pontianak, allegedly used his position to sexually exploit minors residing at the facility.

Authorities revealed that the victims were left traumatized by the repeated abuse. Children, who should be receiving care and protection in state institutions, were instead subjected to exploitation by someone entrusted to protect them.

Police Faced Challenges Due to Intimidation and Viral Social Media Exposure

The investigation faced obstacles early on, primarily due to the suspect’s intimidation of the victims. The case further escalated after unauthorized individuals leaked the incident on social media, causing the content to go viral and inadvertently exposing the victims' identities.

Despite these setbacks, the Jatanras team, supported by the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA), pursued the case with determination. Their coordinated efforts ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect and the continuation of a deeper investigation.

Investigation Expands to Identify More Potential Victims

Law enforcement is now focusing on uncovering the full scope of the perpetrator’s actions. Investigators are working to determine if there are additional victims who have not yet come forward, as well as to collect further supporting evidence to strengthen the case in court.

Public Responsibility and the Urgent Need for Child Protection

This tragic event highlights the urgent need for stronger protection measures in social welfare institutions. It also underlines the importance of community vigilance. When cases of abuse are suspected, immediate reporting to the authorities is critical to prevent further harm and ensure that justice is served.

Zero Tolerance for Sexual Crimes in Government Institutions

There is no place for sexual predators in our society—especially not among those entrusted to serve the public. Law enforcement must act decisively and without compromise to hold offenders accountable. Ensuring the safety of children in all environments, especially state-managed ones, must remain a top priority.
