The front yard of Indonesia’s iconic Merdeka Palace in Jakarta was filled with vibrant energy and joyful cheers on Friday, June 27, 2025. The event marked the official visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to Indonesia — and it wasn’t just officials in attendance. Thousands of elementary school students also took part in the ceremonial welcome, bringing youthful spirit and excitement to the occasion.

From Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara to the gates of the palace, students waved enthusiastically at President Prabowo Subianto and PM Anwar as they passed by. For many of them, it was their first time stepping into the Presidential Palace grounds — a rare and memorable experience.

A Moment to Remember for the Young Generation

Fadya, a student from SDN Mangga Dua Selatan 01, couldn't hide her happiness. Her eyes sparkled with pride as she stood among the crowd, holding a small Indonesian flag in her hand.

“I’m so happy! It’s amazing. I’m proud of myself for being here,” said Fadya with a bright smile.

Other students — Rafa, Rezky, and Bimo from SDN Duri Pulo 02 — were equally thrilled. It was their first time seeing the President in person.

“I feel so happy and excited. I want to meet him and shake hands,” said Rafa enthusiastically.

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity

For Munzir from SDN Duri Pulo 010, being part of this event was something he wouldn’t trade for anything. He even volunteered to join the event because he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to see both leaders in person.

“Yes, I wanted to come because I’ve never seen the President or the Malaysian Prime Minister before,” he explained.

This gathering of students wasn’t just about fulfilling a ceremonial role. Their presence represented the spirit of the future — the next generation of Indonesians witnessing their country's diplomacy and international relations up close.

Little Flags, Big Dreams

The students might have only held small flags in their hands, but their dreams and excitement were anything but small. The experience gave them a closer look at how leaders of nations interact and how significant Indonesia’s role is on the global stage.

As the event concluded, these young students went home with stories they’ll cherish forever — stories of waving flags, smiling leaders, and a day spent at the heart of Indonesia’s leadership: the Merdeka Palace.
