On the night of Wednesday, July 23, the Thai government expelled the Cambodian ambassador and withdrew its diplomats from Nomf. This move came after accusations that Cambodian forces had planted landmines near the border, injuring five Thai military patrol members.

Six heavily armed Cambodian soldiers, including a grenade carrier, were seen approaching the border fence at a Thai military post. The Thai military claimed it issued verbal warnings, but these were ignored—leading to direct physical conflict between the troops.
In response, Thailand deployed F-16 fighter jets to launch an airstrike against Cambodian positions.
