| Superman Actor David Corenswet Reveals His Childhood Hero Was Actually Spider-Man. |
David Corenswet, the rising star who takes on the role of Superman in the upcoming reboot directed by James Gunn, recently opened up about a surprising detail from his childhood: his favorite superhero wasn't Superman — it was Spider-Man.
In an interview, Corenswet shared how deeply he was inspired by Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of the web-slinging hero in the early 2000s. According to him, Maguire’s version of Spider-Man was more than just entertaining — it was the embodiment of a childhood dream.
“I grew up watching Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man,” Corenswet said. “That version really stuck with me because of when it came out and what it represented. A nerdy, awkward kid who suddenly gets superpowers and becomes a hero — that felt magical to me.”
While Superman represents a more godlike figure of strength and hope, Corenswet explained that Peter Parker’s story was easier to connect with on a personal level. “There’s something romantic about it — the transformation, the struggle, the humanity. Superman is another kind of dream, but Spider-Man was my dream as a kid.”
Born in 1993, Corenswet was only eight years old when the first Spider-Man film was released in 2002. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film was a massive hit and led to two sequels: Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007). To this day, Raimi’s trilogy remains a fan-favorite among superhero lovers and film enthusiasts alike.
Now, at 31, Corenswet is stepping into the boots of the most iconic superhero of all time. The new Superman film is set to hit international theaters on Friday, July 11, and fans are eager to see how he will bring a fresh take to the Man of Steel.
Even superheroes have childhood heroes. For David Corenswet, the dream started with Spider-Man swinging through the streets of New York — long before he ever imagined donning the cape of Superman.
If you're a superhero fan, this is a movie you won’t want to miss. Mark your calendar and get ready to witness a brand-new Superman for a new generation.
