Items stolen from the school included:

  • One CCTV unit

  • One Huawei-brand router

  • Cash of approximately Rp1.9 million (Indonesian Rupiah) stored in a desk drawer and a piggy bank

Who Are the Suspects?

The arrests were made on the morning of Thursday, July 24, 2025, at around 6:00 AM. The police acted after conducting a series of in-depth investigations that led to the suspects' identification.

In a press statement delivered on Sunday, July 27, 2025, IPTU Zainal Abidin, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, confirmed that both suspects confessed to the crime during questioning.

Why Did They Commit the Crime?

According to police statements, the stolen items and money were divided between the two suspects and used to cover their daily needs. While their motive may seem typical, their actions resulted in material losses for the school and legal consequences for themselves.

The school reportedly suffered a total loss of around Rp4.5 million (IDR).

What Evidence Was Secured?

The police confiscated several pieces of evidence, including:

  • A Huawei router

  • A CCTV camera

  • Several broken piggy banks

  • The hammer used to break in

These items are being used to support the legal process.

How Will the Suspects Be Prosecuted?

Both suspects have been charged under Article 363 paragraph (1) points 4 and 5 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) for aggravated theft, with subsidiary charges under Article 362.

As one of the suspects is a minor, authorities will process the case following the Child Protection Law of Indonesia.

"We will proceed according to the law, and we’ll use a special approach for the underage suspect," said IPTU Zainal.

Police Call for Public Vigilance

To prevent future crimes, IPTU Zainal also issued a public appeal for heightened community awareness, especially during nighttime hours. He urged residents to take an active role in protecting their environment and to report any suspicious activity.

“We encourage the public to care about their surroundings and immediately report anything suspicious. CCTV is a great preventive measure and should be used effectively,” he added.

This case serves as a stark reminder that theft can happen anywhere — even in schools. Thanks to the quick and strategic action of the Sekadau Police, the case was solved without prolonged unrest in the community.

Prevention remains key. Increasing environmental security, using surveillance tools, and raising awareness — especially among youths — can help reduce similar incidents in the future.
