West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan, MM., MH., officially opened the series of events for the 33rd Provincial Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) on Thursday (August 7, 2025) at the West Kalimantan Governor’s Pavilion. The opening ceremony featured the unveiling of the official logo and mascot of MTQ.

This year, Kapuas Hulu Regency has been appointed as the host, with the competition scheduled for September 14–20, 2025, in the city of Putussibau.

In his remarks, Ria Norsan praised Kapuas Hulu’s preparations. He emphasized that MTQ is not merely a Qur’an recitation competition but also a momentum to strengthen Islamic values and moral guidance in society.

“We hope MTQ will not only be about winning titles but also about making the Qur’an a way of life for Muslims,” he said. The West Kalimantan Provincial Government has pledged full support, both financially and morally, including guidance for champions who will compete at the national level.

The 33rd MTQ logo features yellow, green, and white tones, symbolizing the dome of Baiturrahman Mosque in Bunut Hilir, the minaret of Darunnajah Mosque, and the Great Mosque of Putussibau. Three pillars in the design represent teamwork, while the MTQ monogram is adorned with Dayak motifs and the iconic super red arowana fish. The mascot takes the form of a red arowana wearing a teluk belanga shirt, black cap, songket sarong, and a traditional tenun sidan vest from Kapuas Hulu.

Kapuas Hulu Regent Fransiskus Diaan called the appointment a great honor. “MTQ provides a platform to express our love for the Qur’an while strengthening togetherness in our diverse community,” he said. West Kalimantan LPTQ Chairman Andi Musa added that the event will be attended by 1,155 participants from 14 regencies and cities.

Registration is open until August 15, with 334 participants already confirmed. Preparations have reached 80 percent, with a technical meeting scheduled for August 28 and the Judges’ Orientation on September 13, 2025.

With solid preparations, the 33rd MTQ in Kapuas Hulu is expected to be more than just a competition—it will be a celebration of unity, faith, and local culture. The logo and mascot, rich in regional identity, stand as symbols of the shared spirit to ensure the event’s success.
