A prayer hall at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes), Buduran, Sidoarjo, East Java, collapsed during a construction project on Monday afternoon, September 29, 2025. The incident left three students dead and dozens injured. The East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim) quickly deployed their Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team to assist with evacuation and victim identification.

East Java Police spokesperson, Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, confirmed that the DVI team had already set up a joint command post with rescue teams at the site. "The DVI team has established a post together with the joint task force to carry out evacuation and identification processes," he said in a statement on Tuesday (9/30/2025). As of now, 102 people have been evacuated. Of that number, 91 evacuated on their own while 11 were rescued by SAR teams. In total, 101 people survived.

In addition to the DVI team, Polda Jatim has also deployed extra personnel to secure the area and speed up the rescue effort. "We deployed one platoon of Sabhara, one platoon of Brimob, and three company-level units (SSK) from Sidoarjo City Police," Jules added. The injured victims were rushed to three hospitals: Siti Hajar Hospital, Sidoarjo General Hospital (RSUD), and Delta Surya Hospital. Meanwhile, police officers, soldiers, local disaster management (BPBD), SAR, and volunteers are still combing through the rubble to make sure no victims are left behind.

The collapse reportedly happened because the foundation could not withstand the load during a multi-level concrete pouring process. The Surabaya SAR Office received the emergency call at 3:35 PM on Monday (9/29/2025). Of the total victims, three students were confirmed dead: Mochammad Mashudulhaq (14), from Dukuh Pakis, Surabaya; Muhammad Soleh (22), from Tanjung Pandan, Bangka Belitung; and Alfian, who passed away at Siti Hajar Hospital on Monday night.

As of Tuesday morning, September 30, 2025, joint rescue teams are still working at the scene while families and the local community await further updates. The tragedy has drawn public concern and highlighted the urgent need for strict safety measures in the construction of boarding school facilities and religious institutions
