Tragedy in TTS! Teacher Accused of Beating Elementary Student to Death, Faces 15 Years in Prison

A heartbreaking case has shaken Timor Tengah Selatan (TTS), East Nusa Tenggara. A teacher identified as YN (51) has officially been named a suspect in the abuse of his own student, R (10), a pupil at SD Inpres Poli Village Elementary School. Sadly, the brutal act resulted in the child’s death.

TTS Police Chief AKBP Hendra Dorizen stated that the suspect is charged under Article 80 paragraph (3) of Law No. 35 of 2014 on Child Protection. Under this law, YN faces up to 15 years in prison or a fine of up to Rp3 billion (around $180,000).

“This provision applies when violence against a child results in death,” said AKBP Hendra Dorizen, quoted from Antara on Monday (October 13, 2025).

According to the police, YN eventually confessed after an in-depth investigation. He was immediately detained on Friday (October 10, 2025) following sufficient evidence gathered by investigators.

At first, the suspect denied having assaulted his student. However, once taken to the crime scene, he could no longer deny his actions.

“He admitted hitting the victim in the head with a rock,” the Police Chief revealed.

The case has sparked public outrage, especially since it involves a teacher — a figure meant to guide and protect children, not harm them. Authorities have pledged to handle the case thoroughly to ensure justice for the young victim whose life was taken so cruelly.
