Indonesia’s national criminal investigation agency, Bareskrim Polri, has officially taken over the handling of a major drug case involving tens of thousands of ecstasy pills discovered after a traffic accident on the Bakauheni–Terbanggi Besar Toll Road in Lampung. The takeover is aimed at speeding up efforts to dismantle the larger drug trafficking network behind the operation.
The Director of Narcotics Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Eko Hadi Santoso, confirmed that the case was transferred to his unit on Friday, November 21, 2025. According to him, the decision was made to ensure faster and more effective investigation and development of the case.
“Yes, I took over the case to accelerate the investigation,” he said on Monday, November 24, 2025.
He also confirmed that all seized ecstasy pills have now been transported to Mabes Polri for further forensic examination and legal processing. Meanwhile, police have secured one suspect identified by the initials MR, who is believed to be directly linked to the transportation of the illicit drugs.
“Yes, the evidence has already been taken to the National Police Headquarters,” he briefly confirmed.
This shocking case has drawn widespread public attention due to the massive quantity of ecstasy involved, which could have harmed thousands of young people if it had reached the streets. Investigators are now focusing on uncovering the wider drug syndicate, including suppliers, distributors, and the intended destination of the narcotics.
Authorities are urging the public to remain alert and to actively support the fight against drugs by reporting any suspicious activity in their communities. With the case now under Bareskrim’s control, law enforcement hopes the entire network will soon be exposed and all perpetrators brought to justice.
