Indonesia’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri) continues to investigate an alleged illegal logging case that has recently drawn widespread public attention. The case surfaced after large numbers of floating logs were found carried away by flash floods in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh.
The Director of Specific Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Brig. Gen. Moh. Irhamni, confirmed that investigators have questioned 18 witnesses so far. These examinations aim to clarify the sequence of events and identify parties suspected of being involved in the circulation of illegal timber.
“A total of 18 witnesses have been questioned,” Brig. Gen. Moh. Irhamni said on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
He explained that the investigation has entered a crucial stage. Investigators are preparing to hold a case review meeting in the near future to determine the next legal steps. One of the companies currently under scrutiny is PT TBS.
“We are planning to hold the case review next week,” he added.
Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Moh. Irhamni noted that similar allegations in the other two provinces are still at the preliminary investigation stage. Police are continuing to collect data, witness statements, and supporting evidence before moving forward.
The case has sparked public concern as it is believed to be linked to environmental damage and natural disasters that have affected local communities. Bareskrim Polri emphasized its commitment to fully uncovering the alleged illegal logging activities to ensure legal certainty and create a deterrent effect for those responsible.
