What looked like an ordinary suitcase turned out to be a major drug haul.

Jakarta Police have uncovered a marijuana distribution network operating across provinces, seizing 17 kilograms of marijuana during a series of raids in the Kemayoran area, Central Jakarta.

The case was revealed by the Narcotics Investigation Directorate of Metro Jaya Police. According to officials, four suspects identified as LS, AR, DA, and R were arrested in a coordinated operation carried out on Wednesday evening, January 28, 2026.

The operation began after police received tips from local residents who noticed suspicious drug-related activity in the Kemayoran neighborhood. Acting on the information, officers from Sub-Directorate 3 launched an investigation that quickly led them to several key locations.

The first arrest took place along Bendungan Jago Street, where officers detained LS (23) and AR (25). During a search, police discovered eight packages of marijuana wrapped in brown tape and stored inside a suitcase, allegedly prepared for distribution.

Following the initial arrest, investigators expanded the operation to a boarding house on Hutan Panjang Street. At the second location, two more suspects, DA (27) and R (27), were taken into custody. Officers also recovered additional marijuana weighing approximately 9.3 grams.

Police then moved to a rented house in Sumur Batu, believed to function as a storage site. Inside, officers found another suitcase containing eight more marijuana packages, confirming the operation involved large-scale distribution.

In total, authorities seized 17 kilograms of marijuana, along with four mobile phones, one motorcycle, and two suitcases used to transport the drugs.

All suspects have been brought to Metro Jaya Police Headquarters for further questioning. Investigators are now working to trace the supply chain and determine whether the group is linked to a wider inter-provincial drug network.

Police once again urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity, emphasizing that community cooperation plays a crucial role in combating illegal drugs.
