Police in Solo, Central Java, have uncovered a major interstate drug trafficking network, seizing more than one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine. The case quickly drew public attention after authorities revealed that all four suspects arrested were repeat offenders.

The investigation began after local residents reported suspicious activity at a boarding house in Banyuanyar, Banjarsari District, on Sunday, January 18, 2026. Acting on the tip, officers from the Surakarta Police Narcotics Unit moved in to investigate the location.

Once inside the boarding house, police arrested three suspects and found around one ounce of meth already packaged in medium and small plastic bags, ready for distribution.

“We secured three individuals along with methamphetamine that had been divided into several packets,” said Surakarta Police Narcotics Unit Chief, Commissioner Arfian Rizki Dwi Wibowo, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The three suspects, identified by the initials MSR, ACW, and AH, were taken in for questioning. From there, investigators expanded the case and tracked down another suspect, YMP, who was arrested separately in Boyolali Regency.

As the investigation developed, police received information that more meth had been hidden at the home of one suspect’s parents. Officers then carried out a follow-up search on Monday, January 19, 2026.

“At that location, we found a container buried underground. Inside were nine packets of meth, each weighing about one ounce,” Arfian explained.

After weighing all the evidence, police confirmed the total amount of meth seized reached 1,050 grams, or 1.05 kilograms.

Authorities also revealed how the drugs were transported. According to the suspects’ statements, the meth was picked up in Jakarta about a week earlier and brought to Solo by bus.

“Two kilograms were transported to Solo and divided into 20 smaller packages. Ten were already sold, one was used by the suspects themselves, and the rest were hidden,” he said.

In this operation, three suspects acted as couriers, while the fourth was classified as a user. The couriers were promised a payment of around twelve million rupiah for their role.

All suspects are now facing multiple charges under Indonesia’s Narcotics Law. If convicted, they could face severe penalties, including life imprisonment or even the death sentence. Police say the case highlights how drug networks continue to operate across provinces and underscores the importance of public reports in stopping illegal drug circulation.
