As Lunar New Year 2026 gets closer, Bali’s mangosteen exports are stealing the spotlight. Demand from China is heating up fast, and the numbers show a serious jump compared to the end of last year.
The Bali Center for Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine reported a sharp rise in mangosteen shipments to China in early 2026. From January 1 to February 9, authorities certified 79.5 tons of mangosteen, marking a massive 700 percent increase compared to December 2025.
Officials said the export activity also surged in frequency. During that period, mangosteen shipments were certified 42 times, while in December 2025 there was only one shipment, totaling 9.7 tons. The contrast highlights how strong seasonal demand has become.
So, what’s driving this spike? In China, mangosteen is widely seen as a symbol of good luck, prosperity, and health, making it a popular fruit ahead of Lunar New Year celebrations. As families prepare for the festive season, demand naturally rises—and Bali exporters are riding that wave.
That said, this year’s figures still haven’t beaten last year’s peak. During the same period in early 2025, Bali recorded 131 export certifications with a total volume of 356.5 tons. The drop, according to officials, is largely due to lower mangosteen production caused by extreme weather conditions.
Despite tighter supply, quarantine authorities stressed that export standards remain strict. Every shipment to China must comply with official export protocols, including being free from pests such as mealybugs, fruit flies, scale insects, and snails.
With Lunar New Year demand staying strong, Bali’s mangosteen continues to hold solid appeal in the Chinese market. If production stabilizes and weather conditions improve, exporters are optimistic shipments could rebound and reclaim last year’s momentum.
