Boyolali, Central Java — A horrifying crime has shaken Indonesia after a man allegedly driven by online gambling debt carried out a violent robbery that ended with the death of a 6-year-old child. What started as a money problem spiraled into a tragedy no one saw coming.

Police say the suspect, a 30-year-old man, was deeply trapped in online slot gambling. After repeatedly losing money, he became overwhelmed by debt and desperation. That pressure eventually pushed him to betray his own neighbor.

The incident happened in Pengkol Village, Karanggede District. According to investigators, the suspect came to the victim’s house pretending he wanted to settle a personal debt. But behind that friendly face, he already had a dangerous plan.

Instead of paying back what he owed, the man attempted to steal the family’s motorcycle, hoping to pawn it for cash. His goal was simple but reckless: cover his gambling debts and recover a motorcycle he had previously pawned for around IDR 4 million.

Things quickly turned violent.

When the homeowner, a 34-year-old woman, realized what was happening, the suspect panicked. He brutally attacked her, causing severe injuries. Even more disturbing, her young child was also assaulted and later died at the scene.

Police revealed the child was killed because the suspect feared his crime would be exposed.

After the attack, the suspect fled the area with the stolen motorcycle and escaped to Kudus. His freedom didn’t last long. Within 24 hours, police tracked him down and arrested him in the early hours of the next day.

Authorities confirmed that the injured mother was initially in critical condition and treated in the ICU. Thankfully, her condition has since improved, and she has returned home to continue her recovery.

The suspect now faces multiple serious charges, including violent robbery, severe assault, attempted murder, and violations of child protection laws. If convicted, he could spend up to life in prison.

Police officials used the case to issue a strong warning to the public. They stressed that online gambling is not harmless entertainment. In many cases, it becomes the gateway to financial ruin, mental collapse, and violent crime.

“What looks like a simple online game can destroy lives,” a police spokesperson said. “This tragedy is a painful reminder of how dangerous online gambling addiction can be.”

The Boyolali case now stands as a chilling example of how online gambling addiction can escalate into deadly violence—leaving innocent families shattered forever.
