North Kalimantan Province has reported a positive start to 2026, with regional tax and retribution revenues in the first quarter already exceeding initial targets.
Head of the Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda), Tomy Labo, stated that the realization has surpassed the 15 percent target set for the first quarter.
“Although March 2026 has not yet ended, the first-quarter target of 15 percent from the total annual target of IDR 1.026 trillion has already been exceeded, reaching more than 16 percent,” he said in Tanjung Selor, Bulungan.
This indicates a strong upward trend in regional revenue performance early in the year.
Fuel Tax Remains the Largest Contributor
Among all regional tax sources, the Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax (PBBKB) continues to dominate revenue contributions.
Other significant contributors include:
Motor Vehicle Title Transfer Fee (BBNKB)
Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB)
Cigarette Tax
Tomy explained that North Kalimantan manages seven types of regional taxes:
PBBKB
BBNKB
PKB
Cigarette Tax
Heavy Equipment Tax
Surface Water Tax
Non-Metal Mineral and Rock Tax (MBLB)
“Fuel tax remains the dominant source of revenue,” he emphasized.
Slight Increase in 2026 Revenue Target
For 2026, the provincial government has set a total tax and retribution target of IDR 1.026 trillion.
This represents an increase of approximately IDR 45 billion compared to 2025.
The growth is driven by several key sectors, including:
Regional development projects
National strategic projects
Mining activities
Heavy equipment taxation
The government aims to optimize these sectors to sustain revenue growth throughout the year.
Tax Services Fully Operational Again
Following the Eid holiday and collective leave period, motor vehicle tax services have returned to normal operations.
All Regional Technical Implementation Units (UPTD) under Bapenda across districts and cities resumed services starting Wednesday, March 25.
Head of UPTD Bapenda Malinau Region, Aan Hartono, confirmed that services are running as usual without remote work arrangements.
“We are not implementing WFA. UPTD Bapenda Malinau has resumed full services for motor vehicle tax payments and other services since Wednesday,” he said.
Public Urged to Pay Taxes on Time
Bapenda also reminded the public to pay their motor vehicle taxes on time.
Late payments will incur a penalty of 1 percent per month.
With services now fully operational, residents are encouraged to fulfill their tax obligations promptly to support regional development.
