Latest update from Landak River, West Kalimantan — the joint SAR team has finally found a man who was reported missing after falling off a motorized boat (kelotok) on Sunday (March 22, 2026).

The victim was found at around 7:15 PM local time, unfortunately in deceased condition.

It Started As A Routine River Crossing

Here’s what happened…

The incident began at around 3:30 PM. The victim was crossing the river using a traditional motorized boat, locally known as a kelotok.

He was traveling from Rantau Panjang Village to a nearby company dock.

But in the middle of the trip, things suddenly went wrong.

The victim is believed to have suffered a seizure due to epilepsy, causing him to lose balance and fall into the river.

He was later identified as Khairul Umam (35), a local resident.

Residents Tried To Help First

Before the SAR team arrived, local residents didn’t just stand by.

They immediately tried to search for the victim around the area, doing a manual sweep along the river.

Unfortunately, their initial efforts didn’t lead to any results.

The incident was officially reported to the Pontianak SAR Office at around 5:15 PM by a local resident named Yahya.

SAR Team Launched Immediate Search Operation

Once the report came in, the joint SAR team wasted no time.

They deployed personnel to the location and began a full search operation, scanning the river surface and monitoring nearby areas.

The search went on intensively for several hours.

Victim Found, Operation Closed

The effort finally paid off.

At around 7:15 PM, the victim was located. Sadly, he had already passed away.

His body was then evacuated and handed over to the family for funeral arrangements.

With the victim found, the SAR operation was officially closed, and all teams returned to their respective units.

A Reminder For Everyone

This incident is a serious reminder, especially for those who frequently travel across rivers.

If you have a medical condition, it’s always safer to take extra precautions and avoid traveling alone — especially on water.
