Surabaya — Universitas Airlangga (Unair) in Surabaya has launched an ethics review involving two students following a viral social media video allegedly showing indecent behavior on campus, confirmed by the university on Thursday (18/6/2026).
The Head of Public Relations and Protocol Center (PHMP) at Universitas Airlangga, Pulung Siswantara, confirmed that the location shown in the viral video is within the university’s campus area. The institution is currently handling the case through its ethics committee.
“At present, the case is being processed through the ethics committee to examine what actually happened and how the chronology unfolded,” Pulung said.
The university is also investigating who recorded the video and is working to clarify the full sequence of events before making any final decisions. The review process is ongoing and aims to establish verified facts.
Pulung stated that the university is awaiting the outcome of the ethics investigation before determining any disciplinary action.
“We are waiting for the results of the ethics examination so we can proceed further, both for the person who recorded the video and those appearing in it,” he explained.
He also urged the public to respect the ongoing internal process.
Unair said it will strengthen preventive measures through its Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (PPKPT) mechanism, which is accessible to all members of the academic community.
The university also reaffirmed its core value, “Excellent with Morality,” emphasizing not only academic excellence but also ethical conduct within the campus environment.
