Apple is reportedly gearing up for a major update to its devices in 2027, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the first iPhone launch. This information comes from trusted insider Mark Gurman, shared through his Power On newsletter on Bloomberg. Among the various innovations in the works, Apple is said to be planning to launch an iPhone with a nearly all-glass design and a curved body.
According to reports, the new iPhone will feature a bezel-less experience, meaning there will be no more screen cutouts or notches at the front. Its design is said to resemble a patent Apple filed back in 2019, which described an iPhone body made from a single piece of glass that forms a "continuous loop" around the device.
Additionally, the upcoming iPhone will likely include a front-facing camera hidden beneath the screen, marking a significant step towards a cleaner and more minimalistic design. Previously, The Information also reported that Apple plans to integrate this under-display camera technology in its iPhone by 2027.
But Apple’s innovations aren’t just limited to the iPhone’s design. The company is also rumored to be working on its first foldable iPhone model. This would be a major leap in bringing more flexible phone technology to the market. Moreover, Apple plans to release other devices, such as smart glasses with cameras, microphones, and speakers, as well as AirPods and Apple Watch models with cameras designed for medical use and visual AI applications.
One of Apple’s most ambitious projects may be a desktop robot with a robotic arm and an AI assistant that has its own personality. On top of that, Apple plans to enhance Siri, its voice assistant, with a larger, more advanced language AI model. The company is also looking to develop its own server chips specifically for AI processing.
With all these bold plans, 2027 looks set to be not just the anniversary of the iPhone but also a milestone year in the development of Apple’s tech ecosystem, signaling even greater advancements in the years to come.
