Exciting news comes from David S. Goyer, the writer behind the original Blade trilogy starring Wesley Snipes. Goyer has expressed his willingness to help Marvel Studios with the reboot of Blade, starring Mahershala Ali. He even admitted to being puzzled by the long delay in the development of the film.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Goyer said that he’s more than willing to lend a hand if Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige reach out. “I’d love to do it. I’ve always loved this character, and I adore it. I’ve been sitting on the sidelines asking myself, ‘What the heck is going on? Why is this taking so long?’ Because I’m a huge Marvel fan myself, and I’ve been completely baffled,” Goyer shared.

His confusion is completely understandable. Marvel first announced their Blade film with Mahershala Ali back in July 2019, but the project has yet to make significant progress. Over the past few years, several writers and directors have come and gone. The original director, Bassam Tariq, stepped away from the project in September 2022, just two months before the planned shooting schedule. Yann Demange, who replaced him, also exited the project in June 2024.

Marvel Studios’ desire to bring Blade back is clear. Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, shared in an interview last summer with BlackTree TV that they are not rushing the film. “We want to make sure we do everything right in reviving this iconic franchise,” Feige emphasized.

By November 2023, Variety reported that Blade had already seen at least five different writers come and go. There were even rumors that the film’s story had shifted into a female-led narrative full of life lessons. However, Marvel reassured fans that Blade would still be a part of their larger plans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Although Blade currently has no official release date, his recent appearance in the movie "Deadpool and Wolverine" proves that the character still holds a special place in fans' hearts. In that film, Wesley Snipes’ Blade humorously told Deadpool, “There’s only one Blade. There will always be only one Blade.”

Kevin Feige also reaffirmed his commitment to the character, saying, "We love this character, we love how Mahershala portrays him. And whenever we change the direction of a project or are still figuring out where it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know. Everyone will know what’s happening, and Blade will definitely be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

Now, with all these changes, many fans are hoping Blade will soon return to the big screen with a fresh take and plenty of action. What do you think? Are you looking forward to the new Blade with Mahershala Ali?
