Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Police Criminal Investigation Division (Bareskrim Polri) has thwarted a major drug smuggling attempt involving 18 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. What’s shocking is that the drugs were hidden inside yellow packages resembling Chinese tea, labeled “GUANYIWANG.”

Brigadier General Eko Hadi, Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim Polri, confirmed that two suspects — identified as Elfa Izah Agasti and Iqbal — were arrested during the operation on Monday (May 12, 2025) at around 1:45 AM local time.

“The team received intelligence about a shipment of meth being smuggled from Malaysia through an illegal port in Bukit Batu District, Bengkalis. The meth was being transported to Pekanbaru in a white Honda Brio,” Brig. Gen. Eko explained during a press conference on Wednesday (May 14, 2025).

Authorities pursued the vehicle along the Buatan–Siak road and intercepted it in Sengkemang, Koto Gasib Sub-district, Siak Regency. Upon searching the car, officers found two backpacks — one black and one blue — in the back seat.

Inside the bags were 18 shiny yellow plastic packages labeled “GUANYIWANG,” which upon inspection were found to contain crystal methamphetamine.

“This shows our serious commitment to cracking down on international drug trafficking networks,” said Brig. Gen. Eko.

The case is currently under further investigation, and the suspects may face severe charges under Indonesia’s strict narcotics laws.
