Jakarta – May 28, 2025 During a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Merdeka Palace, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto made a strong appeal for Israel to officially recognize the state of Palestine. He said Indonesia is ready to establish diplomatic relations with Israel — but only if Israel first acknowledges Palestinian sovereignty.

“Once Israel recognizes Palestine as a sovereign nation, Indonesia is prepared to recognize Israel and open diplomatic ties,” President Prabowo stated clearly.

Beyond words, President Prabowo also expressed Indonesia’s willingness to contribute peacekeeping forces to help maintain stability in the conflict-ridden region. This shows Indonesia’s readiness to play an active role in promoting peace.

President Prabowo has long supported the two-state solution as the only fair way to bring lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis. He highlighted Indonesia’s support for an upcoming high-level summit organized by France and Saudi Arabia in June, aiming to push for meaningful dialogue and progress.

At the same time, Prabowo emphasized that Israel’s right to exist as a sovereign state and its security must also be respected. “Peace can only be achieved if the rights and security of both nations are guaranteed,” he said.

During the meeting, Prabowo also praised France’s active role in advocating for justice and humanitarian access in Palestine. He pointed out that Indonesia and France share the same vision to end violence and improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

“France will keep urging for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and full humanitarian access,” said President Prabowo.

Indonesia’s stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict reflects the principles in the preamble of Indonesia’s 1945 Constitution, which calls for contributing to global order based on independence, lasting peace, and social justice.
