Jakarta – Legal certainty over land ownership plays a major role in driving development across Indonesia. That’s the message from Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), during the official handover of 1,120 land ownership certificates (SHM) to transmigrant families from Sukabumi on Wednesday (June 18, 2025), held at the Ministry of Transmigration in Jakarta.

Minister AHY gave high praise to the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) for their continued efforts in ensuring land rights throughout the country—especially for communities in transmigration areas.

"I strongly believe that ATR/BPN plays a critical role in our national development. No matter where we build—on or off Java—it all starts with land. If the legal status of the land is unclear, nobody's going to take the risk to invest or build," said AHY.

According to AHY, the impact of ATR/BPN’s programs is now being felt by many. Having a land certificate doesn’t just bring legal clarity—it can open doors to economic opportunities. People gain peace of mind, access to credit, and even more confidence to grow their livelihoods.

“Imagine living for decades on land without any legal ownership. That’s a stressful life. Always anxious, worried about being evicted, or getting caught up in land disputes,” AHY added.

One emotional story came from Kamela Tifah, a transmigrant who finally received her land certificate after 23 long years of waiting. Thanks to the collaboration between ATR/BPN and relevant agencies, she now officially owns the land she’s been living on.

"I’m so grateful to the government, especially to President Prabowo Subianto. After 23 years of waiting, I finally got my certificate. It’s in my hands now,” Kamela said with emotion.

The land certificate handover was led by Minister AHY, accompanied by Deputy Minister of ATR/Waka BPN, Ossy Dermawan, and Minister of Transmigration, M. Iftitah Sulaiman. Other notable attendees included Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi, Sukabumi Regent Asep Japar, and several high-ranking officials from related ministries and agencies.

This event underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in resolving long-standing issues like uncertain land ownership—especially for transmigrant communities. With proper land documentation now in hand, these families can live with more security and pursue better economic futures.
