After more than 20 years of waiting, there's finally good news for transmigrant families in Sukabumi. The Indonesian government has officially handed over 1,120 land ownership certificates (Sertifikat Hak Milik or SHM) to 642 families who have lived on transmigration land since 2001. This handover was led by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), alongside Deputy Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Ossy Dermawan, and Minister of Transmigration, Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman, on Tuesday, June 18, 2025.

Speaking at the event held at the Ministry of Transmigration office in Jakarta, Deputy Minister Ossy highlighted the importance of legal certainty over land ownership.

“Without legal status, land can become a burden. But once it’s certified, it becomes a strength. This is a formal recognition from the state. Congratulations to all recipients, and thanks to the Sukabumi local government and the Ministry of Transmigration for their collaboration,” he said.

The beneficiaries of these certificates come from four transmigration areas in Sukabumi Regency — Cimanggu, Cikopeng, Gunung Gedongan, and Puncak Gembor. They include families from various regions, such as Aceh and West Java, who have been living in those locations since the early 2000s.

Minister AHY emphasized that owning a land certificate not only provides legal protection but also opens up economic opportunities.

“A legally owned plot of land can be used as collateral for bank loans or developed into productive business assets,” he explained.

During the event, AHY also launched a flagship program initiated by the Ministry of Transmigration, known as Trans Tuntas, which stands for Land Resolved, Hopes Fulfilled. This program aims to resolve long-standing issues related to land ownership in transmigration areas.

Transmigration Minister Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman mentioned that tens of thousands — even more than 100,000 — certificates are still pending.

“We’ve allocated funds to support the land measurement and certification process in collaboration with ATR/BPN,” he stated.

The minister hopes that this effort will serve as a concrete step toward achieving agrarian justice, improving the local economy, and ensuring the welfare of transmigrant communities who have long fought to build a better life in new regions.

Also present at the event were key officials including Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi, Sukabumi Regent Asep Japar, and senior officials from the West Java BPN Regional Office and other related ministries/agencies.

The handover of 1,120 land certificates is not just about paperwork — it’s about giving new hope to thousands of families. The Trans Tuntas program and cross-ministerial cooperation show the government’s strong commitment to settling agrarian issues and delivering social justice.

If you're living on transmigration land and haven’t received your certificate yet, now is a good time to check your status and start the process. Legal land ownership can be your foundation for a more secure and prosperous future.
