Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has laid out a bold vision for the country’s future, not only aiming for food self-sufficiency but also positioning Indonesia as a net exporter of key commodities like rice and corn in the near future.
“We will become a net exporter of rice and corn within a few years,” President Prabowo confidently stated during his speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), held at the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre in Russia on June 20, 2025.
Prabowo addressed global leaders and economic stakeholders, presenting an optimistic outlook for Indonesia’s economy. Backed by data from his economic advisors, he shared that Indonesia’s growth in the first half of 2025 has already surpassed 5%, with projections showing it could reach up to 7% by the end of the year.
“Experts on my team project our growth may approach 7% by year-end, maybe even more. This shows that we're on the right track,” he said.
Investing in the Future: Danantara Sovereign Wealth Fund
In his speech, President Prabowo also introduced the Indonesia Future Energy Investment Authority, known as BPI Danantara. This sovereign wealth fund is designed to secure long-term national prosperity and protect the wealth of future generations.
“Danantara means Indonesia’s energy of the future. It’s a legacy we’re building for our children and grandchildren,” Prabowo explained.
Currently, BPI Danantara manages assets valued at USD 1 trillion, reflecting a serious commitment to long-term wealth generation and national financial security.
A Message to the World: “Indonesia is Open for Business”
President Prabowo used the global stage to emphasize that Indonesia remains open to business collaborations with any country. He also highlighted the longstanding positive relationship between Indonesia and Russian corporations.
“We are open to business. We welcome all groups from all parts of the world,” Prabowo said.
