North Sumatra Police Foil Major Drug Smuggling Operation from Dumai: Four Suspects Arrested with 25 Kg Meth and Thousands of Pills. |
The North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumut), through its Narcotics Investigation Directorate, successfully uncovered a major drug smuggling operation involving various types of narcotics brought in from Dumai City, Pekanbaru, Riau Province. The illicit drugs were intended for distribution across North Sumatra.
Four Suspects Arrested in Coordinated Operations
The operation took place in the early hours of Tuesday (June 17), where authorities apprehended four individuals suspected of being involved in the drug trafficking ring.
The first suspect, SYH (27), was caught on the Medan–Tebing Tinggi highway in Serdang Bedagai Regency at around 1:30 AM. During interrogation, SYH confessed to collecting the drugs from Dumai.
Following this lead, police arrested a second suspect, HAR (26), on the Medan–Binjai highway, specifically in Mulyorejo Village, Sunggal District, Deli Serdang Regency.
Further investigations led to the capture of FER (48) and SUR (46) on Diponegoro Street, Madras Hulu Subdistrict, Medan Polonia District.
Seized Evidence: Meth, Happy Five, and Ecstasy
From the four suspects, authorities seized a large quantity of illegal substances, including:

25 kilograms of crystal meth (shabu-shabu)

15,000 pills of Happy Five (a sedative-hypnotic)

5,000 ecstasy pills
The suspects and the evidence were taken to the North Sumatra Police headquarters for further investigation and case development.
Three Masterminds Still at Large
According to the Director of Narcotics Investigation for North Sumatra Police, Police Commissioner Dr. Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak, S.I.K., M.H., the operation is still being developed, as three alleged masterminds of the smuggling network remain fugitives.
“A full statement will be provided once the investigation is complete,” said Commissioner Calvijn, as quoted by Matatelinga, Wednesday (June 25, 2025).

This case highlights the ongoing threat of drug trafficking in Indonesia, particularly in Sumatra. The police emphasize the importance of community cooperation in reporting suspicious activities related to drug abuse and distribution.
