Jorge Martin Feared He’d Never Ride Again After Qatar Crash: Inside the Mental Battle of a MotoGP Champion.

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin has opened up about one of the darkest chapters in his career—his time in the hospital following a devastating crash during the Qatar Grand Prix. Speaking ahead of his return this weekend at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno, Martin shared just how close he came to believing his racing days were over.

Martin has been out of action since the incident at the Lusail circuit in April. The crash not only sidelined him physically, but also took a serious toll on his mental strength. He was hospitalized in Qatar and spent four days in the ICU, facing uncertainty about his future in MotoGP.

“When I was in the hospital in Qatar, I honestly didn’t know if I would ever ride a MotoGP bike again,” Martin said during Thursday’s pre-race press conference. “That was the hardest part to process. I was talking to my girlfriend, my dad, and even Aleix Espargaro, but deep down, I had my doubts.”

Beyond his physical recovery, Martin admitted he struggled with self-confidence. The crash shook him to the core, forcing him to confront fears about his ability to perform at the highest level again.

“I questioned everything—from whether I could be fast again to whether I’d be strong enough to compete,” he shared. “But I trained hard, probably harder than ever before, and now I feel more prepared than I’ve ever been.”

Martin also reflected on the courage he discovered within himself during this difficult journey. “I didn’t know I had this much bravery until I was forced to face it. Now I know it’s part of me, and it will stay with me throughout my career.”

Amid ongoing rumors linking him with a possible switch to Honda, Martin confirmed that he will remain with Aprilia Racing for the 2025 MotoGP season. His decision puts an end to months of speculation and reinforces his commitment to the team that supported him through his recovery.

Jorge Martin’s story goes far beyond speed and victories. It’s about resilience, inner strength, and the emotional rollercoaster of being a top-level athlete. For anyone facing doubt or adversity, his experience serves as a powerful reminder: true champions are forged not only on the track, but also in the toughest moments off of it.
