Jorge Martín Opens Up About Aprilia Reunion: “It Won’t Be Easy, But Communication Is Everything. |
After being away from the MotoGP paddock for three months due to injury and a tense contract dispute, Jorge Martín has finally returned—this time with Aprilia. His comeback instantly drew media attention, and a special press conference was held just for him. While the crowd of journalists was a bit overwhelming, Martín stepped up and answered every question thrown his way.
He admitted it wasn’t the most comfortable situation to face on his first day back, but he remained honest and composed, especially when discussing how he was welcomed back by the Aprilia crew and technical team.
Despite the rocky past between them, the reigning world champion believes there’s still a chance for a strong partnership—as long as open communication becomes the foundation.
“I spoke with my crew, with the test team, and with Massimo. I know this won’t be a walk in the park. I am not expecting things to be easy, but I am fully committed to making this work so we can get strong results together,” Martín said during the press event organized by MotoGP.com.
He compared the relationship with Aprilia to the ups and downs of a romantic partnership. There may have been conflict, but if both sides are still willing to fight for each other and the same goals, then the relationship is still worth saving.
“I believe relationships are like a roller coaster. You fall in love, then maybe have some arguments, but if you still care, you fight to stay together and reach your goals. That’s where we are now. I can’t deny we had a major argument, but it is time to rebuild, because both Aprilia and I want to move forward and win. That is what matters most, and I believe we can find common ground again.”
Now, Martín's focus is on rebuilding the team environment he once had—one that felt like family. That kind of support system is essential for his success on the track. He understands it will take time, especially after what has happened, but he stands by his decisions.
“When you return to the paddock after something like this, there is definitely some tension in the air. But the most important thing is to talk it out. I did not apologize because I do not believe I have anything to apologize for. I did what I thought was best for my career,” he added.
He’s willing to make improvements where needed, and if the team believes he should take steps to mend the relationship, he is ready to do so.
“We are in this together now, and we need to talk and move forward as one. Having a sense of family around me is super important, so I will work hard to build that again.”
