Newly Built but Already Damaged Sanggau–Sekadau Road in Semuntai Turns Wavy Allegedly Due to Substandard Filling Material.

The road connecting Sanggau to Sekadau, particularly in the Semuntai area, has recently drawn sharp public criticism. The reason? The road, completed less than a year ago, is already showing significant damage.

Instead of a smooth, comfortable surface, the road has now become wavy and hazardous for drivers. Motorists have reported discomfort, and some even narrowly avoided accidents due to uneven elevation between the left and right lanes in several sections.

According to information gathered from various sources, the damage is strongly suspected to be caused by the use of substandard filling material. The material reportedly came from Dusun Sungai Kunyit, not far from the Semuntai gas station.

The issue lies in the soil structure of that location, which allegedly does not meet the standards required for proper road base construction. In infrastructure projects like this, the quality of the fill material is crucial for long-term durability.

Interestingly, during the construction process, DPR RI member Lasarus passed by the site and openly criticized the filling work, claiming it lacked proper standards.

Now that the damage is evident, the media sought clarification from the project contractor. Mr. Masri, the project supervisor, admitted that mistakes were made from the initial planning stage.

"It was already wrong from the beginning, including the planning," said Mr. Masri when interviewed by reporters.

This statement has only fueled public concern: How could a high-budget road project proceed with such poor planning from the start?

Local residents and daily commuters are urging the government and related agencies to step in immediately. They are calling for a full evaluation of the project, including the contractor, material sources, and the supervision during construction.

Considering this road is a main route connecting Sanggau and Sekadau, it must become a priority for repair and quality improvement. If ignored, the issue won't just cause inconvenience but could also pose serious safety risks to road users.
