The Narcotics Unit of Palu City Police arrested a 20-year-old man identified as MF, a resident of Banda Aceh, shortly after he got off Lion Air flight JT 0780 at Mutiara Sis Al-Jufri Airport on Wednesday (August 6, 2025).
MF was caught smuggling 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside a black plastic-lined suitcase.
Palu Police Chief Commissioner Deny Abrahams said the arrest was based on intelligence from Sub-directorate 2 of the Riau Police Narcotics Division, relayed through Operations Head Commissioner I Dewa Gede Meiriawan.
The intel warned of a drug courier from Aceh traveling to Palu by air. “Our ops team immediately conducted a bust at the airport’s arrival area. During a search, officers found six large packs of meth hidden among the suspect’s clothes in his suitcase. We also seized two mobile phones used for communication,” Deny said Thursday (August 7), as quoted by RRI.
MF admitted he received the drugs from an unidentified individual in Pekanbaru. He now faces serious legal consequences under Articles 114(2) and 112(2) of Indonesia’s Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, which carries a maximum penalty of death.
Commissioner Deny reaffirmed the police’s commitment to dismantling inter-provincial drug networks and urged the public to report any suspicious activity in their communities.
MF and the evidence are now in custody for further investigation.
