Pontianak – The Government of West Kalimantan Province continues its strong commitment to improving rubber productivity by promoting the use of certified superior seeds. One of the key initiatives is the introduction of the IRR 112 rubber clone, known for its high yield potential and excellent resistance to tropical environmental conditions.

A total of 9,243 three-month-old IRR 112 rubber seedlings have been prepared for distribution to Sintang and Kubu Raya Regencies. The seed propagation activities are centered in Sungai Besar Village, Matan Hilir Selatan District, Ketapang Regency.

The certification process is overseen by Yunita Hutasoit, Plant Seed Inspector at the UPT for Plantation Seed Supervision and Certification of West Kalimantan, along with Parmi, S.E., Head of Testing and Certification. Both ensured that all production and labeling stages at CV. Agrindo followed official agricultural standards.

According to H. Sirajudin Nur, the Managing Partner of CV. Agrindo, all stages of IRR 112 seed production were carried out in compliance with government regulations. “We use scion material from an official seed garden in Kayong Utara and rootstock seeds certified by the Ministry of Agriculture. With the adoption of IRR 112, we’re confident that West Kalimantan’s rubber productivity will rise, leading to better welfare for rubber farmers,” he said enthusiastically.

Parmi, S.E. added that using certified and labeled superior seeds is essential to ensure quality and guarantee optimal production. “Certified seeds ensure plants grow healthy, productive, and yield better results,” she explained.

Quality inspections were conducted based on Minister of Agriculture Decree No. 85 of 2017, which outlines the production and certification standards for rubber seeds. To be approved for distribution, the seedlings must meet strict criteria, including:

  • Scion from approved and pure clones,

  • Rootstock purity above 90%,

  • Minimum age of three months,

  • First canopy height above 20 cm,

  • Bud graft diameter above 0.5 cm,

  • Having 1–3 leaf canopies,

  • Free from pests and diseases,

  • Using polybags measuring at least 15 x 35 cm.

After inspection, the IRR 112 rubber seedlings were officially declared to meet all quality standards and are ready for farmer distribution.

The IRR 112 clone is now widely recommended because of its high productivity, strong adaptability to various soil types, fast growth, straight trunk structure, and superior resistance to leaf fall disease and white root fungus — two of the most common threats to tropical rubber plantations in West Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, the previously popular PB 260 clone has shown declining productivity in recent years. Many farmers report lower latex output and increased vulnerability to diseases. As a result, switching to the IRR 112 clone has become a strategic step in West Kalimantan’s rubber plantation rejuvenation program.

Let’s support the progress and prosperity of West Kalimantan’s rubber farmers by using certified and high-quality rubber seeds. Together, we can help increase productivity and strengthen the local plantation economy.
