BANJARMASIN – The City Patrol Team (Patko) from the Banjarmasin Police’s Samapta Unit closely monitored the search operation for two individuals suspected of drowning near Dewi Bridge on Thursday.

Police presence at the scene went beyond supervision. Officers actively secured the area and ensured that the joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team could carry out their operation without disruption.

Head of the Water Police Unit, Commissioner Dading Kalbu Adie, stated that personnel were deployed to support the search and maintain order around the location.

“We are here to ensure the search process runs safely and smoothly, while also preventing large crowds from interfering with SAR operations,” he said on Friday.

Incident Timeline Still Under Investigation

Initial reports indicate that both victims are male. However, their identities and the exact cause of the incident are still under investigation.

According to a witness, the घटना began when a local resident fishing nearby noticed suspicious movement in the water.

“The witness saw unclear movement and heard a splash, then immediately reported it to nearby residents,” Dading explained.

The incident is believed to have occurred on Wednesday (March 25), prompting immediate response from SAR teams.

SAR Teams Conduct Intensive Search

Joint SAR teams in Banjarmasin continue to sweep the river area using specialized water rescue equipment in an effort to locate the victims.

Meanwhile, Patko officers are managing the surroundings of the bridge, controlling public access and traffic flow to give rescue teams enough space to operate efficiently.

“We also urge the public to stay away from the search area for their own safety and to allow the evacuation process to proceed smoothly,” he added.
