A young and attractive woman, identified by the initials EM, from Bekasi Regency in West Java, Indonesia, has allegedly fallen victim to blackmail by a man claiming to be a police officer from Bandar Lampung. The disturbing case began with a seemingly harmless online conversation that escalated into a traumatic experience involving threats and extortion.
It Started with a TikTok Chat, Then Moved to WhatsApp
According to a statement by Police Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi, Head of Public Relations at Metro Jaya Police, the case began when EM met the suspect through the popular social media app TikTok. The man introduced himself as "T" and claimed to be a police officer stationed in Bandar Lampung.
“The victim initially got to know a man via TikTok who claimed to be a police officer from Bandar Lampung,” said Ade Ary during a press briefing on Tuesday (April 29, 2025).
The chat soon moved from TikTok to WhatsApp, where conversations became more personal and frequent. Feeling emotionally connected, EM started sending him private and intimate videos — unaware that they would be used against her.
From Intimacy to Threats: Private Videos Turned Into Blackmail
As their digital relationship developed, the suspect began pressuring EM using the private content she had shared. Ade Ary explained that the suspect demanded IDR 10 million (around $620 USD) to keep the videos from being leaked online.
“The suspect sent back a recording of the victim and demanded IDR 10 million to keep it from being published. The victim agreed to pay only IDR 5 million, transferred in stages,” Ade Ary added.
Sadly, this type of blackmail involving explicit content is becoming more common, especially as more people turn to social media for connection and companionship.
Victim Reports the Crime, Police Launch Investigation
Unlike many victims who suffer in silence, EM decided to take a brave step by reporting the incident to the authorities. The case is now being handled by the Bekasi Metro Police Department. Law enforcement is actively working to identify and locate the suspect.
“Bekasi Metro Police are handling it. The suspect is under investigation,” confirmed Ade Ary.
