Minister Nusron Urges PMII Alumni to Join the Movement for Land Equality and Economic Justice through Agrarian Reform. |
Jakarta – Indonesia’s Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Nusron Wahid, has a clear message for PMII alumni: It’s time to step up and be part of real change!
Speaking at the National Inauguration and Orientation event of the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement Alumni Association (PB IKA-PMII) in Jakarta on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Nusron encouraged alumni to get involved in pushing forward economic justice, equal land access, and sustainable development—especially through the government’s Agrarian Reform program.
“Sustainable economy means don’t destroy what’s already working. But justice and equality mean new opportunities should go to those who haven’t had them yet,” said Nusron. “That’s exactly where PMII alumni, NU, Muhammadiyah, and other social groups can step in and fill the gap.”
Over 1.4 Million Hectares of Land Waiting to Be Used
According to Nusron, out of the 55.9 million hectares of land already mapped and certified, there’s still about 1.4 million hectares of unused land officially classified as TORA (Land for Agrarian Reform). And guess what? That land is up for grabs—not for profit, but for real, community-based causes.
“It could be used for education, for building pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), or for economic empowerment of the people,” he explained. “We’re open to all who want to help. The land’s there. Let’s not waste it!”
Want Access? Team Up with Your Local Government
Here’s the deal: while the central government decides which land is available, it’s the local leaders—your mayors or regents—who pick the recipients. That’s why, Nusron says, it’s super important to collaborate with regional governments.
“They’re the ones who really know the local people and who deserves what,” he added.
Follow the Zoning Rules, Folks
But here’s a heads-up: not all land can be used for just anything. Nusron reminded everyone that any land use must stick to existing zoning regulations.
“If you want to build a pesantren, the land must be zoned for residential or industrial use. If it’s zoned for agriculture or defense, you can’t build housing on it. But you can use it for a pesantren-based cooperative,” he explained.
Big Names Showed Up to Support
This event wasn’t just any gathering—it brought together some major figures. Among the attendees were KH Said Aqil Siradj (PBNU advisor), Fathan Subchi (Chairman of PB IKA-PMII), Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal (Deputy Speaker of the House), and plenty of PMII alumni from across the country.
Minister Nusron’s message is simple: There’s land. There’s a purpose. There’s a chance to create lasting impact. For PMII alumni and other changemakers, now’s the time to jump in and turn Agrarian Reform into a movement that truly benefits the people.
So whether you’re looking to build a school, run a cooperative, or empower local communities—this could be your shot to be part of something bigger than yourself.
